About The Officers and Horses From the Horses Mouth Why a Mounted Unit?

Mounted Unit History

The Mounted Unit began in 1999.

The Manchester Police Department Mounted Unit was initiated in 1999 as part of a federal grant to ehance our community policing initiative. The City of Manchester and Chief of Police, Mark Driscoll authorized the formation of a Mounted Unit after reviewing the positive impact and success Mounted Units had in other communities.

Budgetary cuts in 2004, almost forced the Mounted Unit to disband. With the support of the new Chief of Police, Chief John Jaskolka, the unit was granted permission to look for sponsors and donors to help support the unit's operations.

In 2005 is the Mounted Unit has a goal to be fully self-sufficient in its operations, depending on volunteers and public donations. We are now officially a non-profit organization.
